Ssamjang (μμ₯) is a thick, seasoned Korean dipping paste made from a blend of fermented soybean paste (doenjang), red chilli paste (gochujang), sesame oil, onion, garlic, and other spices. This combination gives it a deeply savoury, salty, and slightly sweet flavour profile with a mild, pleasant heat. It is most famously used as an essential condiment for Korean barbecue, where a small amount is dabbed onto grilled meat before being wrapped in a lettuce or perilla leaf. To prepare a classic Korean BBQ wrap, simply place a piece of grilled pork belly (samgyeopsal) on a lettuce leaf, add a dollop of ssamjang, and top with some sliced garlic or kimchi. This paste is also a versatile ingredient for seasoning stews, marinating vegetables, or as a simple dip for fresh cucumber and carrot sticks. Contains SOY and WHEAT.
