Oden is a type of nabemono or Japanese hot pot. Fish cakes, boiled eggs and vegetables are added to the soy-based dashi broth. It’s a warm and nourishing one-pot dish - perfect for sharing with friends.
This oden soup base is flavoured with mirin, soy sauce and Hidaka kelp from Hokkaido. It has a rich, savoury flavour and clean mouthfeel.
To prepare your hot pot, add your ingredients to the soup base and simmer until cooked. You can buy kamaboko (Japanese fish cakes) in many Asian grocery stores. Alternatively, add prawns, tofu or sliced vegetables.
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Once opened, consume immediately.
